One of the things we love most about this stage of our lives is the opportunity for more travel! Krista is already planning her outfits for a trip to Greece this September, and last December, my husband and I spent two weeks in the UK visiting my daughter & SIL who currently live in Sheffield, England. With more travel under our belts, we’ve learned a thing or two about how to pack more efficiently, plus what travel gadgets are worth your money. Here’s our summer must-have travel accessories that will hopefully help as you plan for upcoming vacations!
On the Plane

- Noise canceling headphones: Wireless connection to your phone or use the cord to connect to the flight entertainment. I also keep these on even when I’m not listening to anything just to drown out the plane noise.
- Turtl neck support: The most comfortable option for sleeping on the plane, it totally supports your head in any position. My daughter swears by this!
- Tube neck pillow: A genius hack for maximizing carryon luggage space! Double-duty packing tube for soft items, plus support for your neck! Even if you don’t use it for sleeping, it’s a great way to pack more without incurring fees.
- Expandable tote bag: Krista loves this bag and is amazed by how much it can expand! Love that it also has a sleeve for the suitcase handle.
- Travel wipes: I always forget these and then kick myself once I’m on plane! Not just for sanitizing pre-flight, these would be so handy for the entire trip!
- Disposable toothbrush: My daughter shared this little tip and I think it’s brilliant! After a long haul flight, sometimes you have to hit the ground running and it might be awhile before you see your hotel sink. These are so handy for a quick mouth refresh!
- Packing Cubes: If you can only get one thing, compression packing cubes are it! You can fit so much more in your suitcase with these babies!
- Luggage scale: Save embarrassment and frustration at the airport by checking your suitcase weight BEFORE going to the airport. This little gadget is so handy and easily fits into your suitcase to check weight for the return trip.
- Phone holder: Easily attaches to the back of an airplane seat for easy viewing of downloaded shows. Or makes a handy stand for your phone on the tray.
- Cup holder for suitcase: Last airport trip I was juggling coffee, a purse, and a totebag while running to catch my flight. Never again.
Tips for travelling:
*Bring a pair of cozy socks for the plane. Nothing worse than cold feet for hours!
*Remember to download podcasts and movies before you leave home. Public wifi can be unpredictable
*Have your phone charger handy for charging while on the plane. I like pass the time by going through my album of 384757837 photos/videos and deleting as much as possible. No wifi needed!
*Bring a notepad and pen/pencil. I’ve struggled with flight anxiety in the past, and writing or drawing is a proven strategy to distract the brain and calm nerves. I also like to take notes when listening to a podcast or use it for a travel journal.
*Longer flights provide blankets, so instead of a wrap, I layer up for warmth on the plane with a top and jacket that I plan to wear on the trip anyways.
Every trip is different, but these are tried & true items that have become part of our travel checklist! Is there anything not on our lists that you consider a travel essential? Let us know in the comments below!
